Contemporary Māori Art – Swimming with the Cosmos.
A collaboration with Ali Davies and Cheri Waititi (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) on a series to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year which takes place over June & July.
Cascading blue tonal hues across the translucent body of Te Mangōroa. Here they are illustrated through pattern and colour and highlight the movement described by Cheri’s drawings of her Te Mangōroa motifs.
Repeating patterns give a sense of eternity and timelessness, which Ali enjoyed exploring through scale, colour, shape, space and position. Here the central motif is anchored through deep blue hues and strong outlines.
This interior mock-up gives an example of scale. Would look equally lovely in a white frame. These pieces are impactful and suit a business or office environment or spacious interior.
