Fine Art Print Series | Ali Davies × Cheri Waititi (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui)
Matariki marks the Māori New Year — a time of remembrance, reflection, and renewal observed across June and July, when the Matariki star cluster rises low on the horizon in the small hours of the morning.
This series of six fine art prints is a collaboration with Cheri Waititi (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui), bringing together two creative practices in a body of work that honours the spirit and significance of this season.
Five of the six works centre on Te Mangōroa — a motif from Cheri's practice, rich with cultural meaning — explored through my language of colour, pattern, and scale. The sixth, Ngā Manu o Te Rangi (Birds of the Heavens), depicts birds in flight in a style drawn from the visual language of ancient cave art, telling the story of their descent from Te Rangi, the sky father, to Papatūānuku, the earth mother.
Together, these works are both personal and universal — an invitation to slow down, look inward, and consider your place in the wider cosmos.
Each print is produced in a limited edition of 10, printed in New Zealand on 330gsm Fine Art Etching Cotton Matte. Impactful at scale, they suit spacious interiors, business environments, and offices where considered art makes its presence felt.
