Fabric Care - Linen
Laundered linen is very special in that the initial ‘breaking in’ of the woven fibres has been done for you. Linen becomes softer and more absorbent with use and these tablecloths have been pre-washed so you can enjoy the luxurious feel and softness right away.
To care for your tablecloth, wash it at a low temperature and use a gentle cycle if you have a top-loading washing machine. Front-loading machines are more gentle on fabric so use a linen or cotton setting. Use a mild detergent with no bleaching agents (does not claim to ‘whiten’ fabric or remove stains).
To remove stains we recommend our Fabric Soap or something similar. Simply wet the stained area, rub the soap onto the stain, and then wash.
It is best to dry your tablecloth on a dry and slightly windy day but as we cannot predict the weather, dry it flatly folded or draped out of direct sunlight.
Tumble drying is not recommended as it can cause shrinkage, however, you can safely dry linen on a lower heat setting and then take it out before it is completely dry, then fold and put it in your warming cupboard if you are lucky enough to have one!
If you dry flat as directed above, you will not need to iron your tablecloth.
However, if you do wish to iron your tablecloth, iron while not completely dry and it will be much easier. You could also use a gentle spray bottle to slightly wet the fabric before ironing. Use the cotton or linen setting but do not let the iron burn the fabric. Linen is a natural fibre so if you leave the iron in one spot for too long you could burn it.
Linen is the one fabric that is pleasurable to fuss over! Enjoy your new linen tablecloth and the enjoyable lifestyle it brings.
